Aluinen zijn chemische verbindingen, dubbelzouten van sulfaten. De groep verbindingen is genoemd naar de stof KAl, die al in de oudheid onder de naam aluin bekend was. Zonder nadere specificatie wordt met aluin dan ook kaliumaluminiumaluin bedoeld.

An inorganic salt (Aluminium Potassium Sulfate) soluble in water, used in small percentages in various formulations of “colletta” (or glue paste) for the lining of paintings; Kalinite has an excellent thickening and plasticizing power and besides it acts as a preservative inside the “colletta”.
