Dinatriumzout of EDTA is een veel toegepaste chelerende organische verbinding. In het laboratorium wordt het dinatriumzout van EDTA ook vaak als EDTA aangeduid: de natriumionen zijn niet relevant voor het gebruik als ligand. Pure EDTA lost slecht op in water, echter het dinatriumzout, wat in het laboratorium ook vaak kortweg EDTA wordt genoemd is WEL goed oplosbaar in water.

A salt of an organic acid (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid, disodium salt) used in aqueous solutions with other reagents and inert materials for the preparation of cleaning mixtures and poultices to be applied to stone surfaces and frescoes. EDTA disodium salt, for its property of complexing calcium within crusts and for its good solubility (better than tetrasodium salt), is used in the AB 57 poultice (I.C.R. formulation – Rome). It is besides a strong chelating agent of a great many metallic cations, as iron and copper; this property can be utilized to remove stains of rust or copper green from stone surfaces, wood, plasters, etc…
